Bootle results from Nov 26, 2023

Back in May at the Scottish Six Days Trial there were several head to head dad v lad battles and the duel relevant to the Northern Centre was between Darren and Cameron Brice – which dad Darren won.

Since then, Cameron – the lad  – has proven to be up to the task and has beaten his dad, which he again repeated on the last Sunday of November at Bootle’s final Gowan Construction club trial by winning over the Hard Course with the loss of just 2 marks to his dad’s total of seven.

Just 28 riders took part, a disappointing entry on an overcast, dry but cold day on the high land of Fell Green overlooking the Irish Seas with the Isle of Man just visible in the distance.

Over the Green Course, a 50/50 mix of the Clubman and Hard Course sections, Sam Metcalfe beat Nigel Birkett 11 marks to 17, and there’s a near 40 year gap in ages between the two whilst Ethan King was third best on 20.

The ever improving Lee Southam won another Clubman Course  for the Under 40 group, but was only third overall in the category as the Over 40 boys, Simon Brice and Anthony Brockbank on 4 and 9 had the advantage.

Age and a 500 Ariel are not to be discounted as Colin Benson was again best over the Dead Easy course with just 4 marks.

The hardest section of the trial looked to be one of the easyist being a narrow stream of rocks between two grassy banks, yet whilst there were few fives on the section, only two riders managed four cleans, the winner Cameron Brice and Clubman Steve Gregory.

Whilst we wait for a set of results in a format that can be used, a picture above of a Facebook print out is shown above, whilst Eric Kitchens pictures will be in the Gallery very soon, probably about noon Monday.
