Clawthorpe’s contenders
There was a cracking turnout of riders for the first round in the newly sponsored by motorcyclepartsuk.com, Lakes GTRC trial at Clawthorpe on April 13 with 69 riders taking part over four laps of a dozen sections at this hilltop venue overlooking Morecambe Bay.
The hard course had just seven riders prepared to tackle what proved to be a testing set of sections with Ethan Johnson taking a clear cut win losing just 9 marks from Youth A rider Harry Bayman on 22 with Matt Edmondson on 26 for third place.
There were two Clubman courses, an Easy course was won with a clean sheet by Peter Blowers from David Maxwell and Gareth Edmondson on 5 and 7 marks respectively with Colin Benson best Pre 65 rider in a fine ninth place of 23 riders in the category while on the main Clubman course it was Aaron Athersmith who was best losing just a single dab from Nick Shield, give his BSA an outing prior to the Pre 65 Scottish trial in a couple of weeks time. Gary Kitching lost the same number of marks as Shield, 7, with Jeremy Hackett and Aden Jackson next on 8 marks apiece.
The Clawthorpe venue is a good place for multi class trials but the plethora of flags marking different routes through the sections led to some confusion with several riders surprised to see their scores higher than expected having presumably misread their route through the section.
