Gaskells to the fore

Trials that were once well supported during the summer months now rarely achieve the entry numbers that they did in the past, a situation that applied to the Cumberland County Club’s Velocette Trial on July 26.

It could have been the clash with Trial GP on Anglesey that affected it, but that was unlikely to be the case, the trials being so many miles apart, and this year the trial at Roughton Gill – a great venue attracted just 19 starters and 4 who entered but failed to attend the trial.

Father and son Stuart and Lewis Gaskell topped the main clubman class with Jason Smetton-Minso the winner over the easier course. Apparently it was a good trial well set out for the class of rider expected, just a shame that those anticipated riders didn’t turn up for a excellent trial at a brilliant venue.
