Glenridding hosts the classic guys

Robin Oliphant and the team from the Cumberland County MCC organised another terrific trial over two days in the Glenridding Valley based at the Gillside campsite in the Cumbrian village.
A privileged 60+ riders started on Saturday afternoon (a restricted entry) but heavy rain on Saturday dampened the enthusiasm of the day one starters who were restricted to three lass of 10 sections to make life easier for everybody with the becks running high. But as the afternoon progressed the weather moderated and the sun started to show through with some glimmers of terrific lighting.
Two classes, regular clubman and easier were offered, but it is always a testing trial for all because the terrain between sections also takes energy away from the riders sporting an array of classic bikes from pre 65s, twinshocks and air-cooled monos. There were even some home made pit bike trials machines present including Craig Asbridge’s Tiger Prawn (don’t ask!!)
Day two was another story, the sun was out all day and the Lakeland fells were majestic. Four laps of 12 sections was the offering using some additional land and it was generally a more testing day.
This has to be one of the best “unknown” classic trials on the calendar, sticking to decades of tradition in no-frills traditional Lakeland scenery.
