Passing of Dick Tallentire
It is with regret that we have learned that long-time Bassenthwaite club member Richard “Dick” Tallentire passed away on Monday morning, February 16, following a relatively short illness.
Dick, was an enthusiast for off road sport and in his youth raced scrambles at the long-forgotten track at Bewaldeth, and when not racing was the commentator at the venue and also at other scramble circuits in the Lake District. He was probably best known during current times as a tough, no-nonsense observer at Bassenthwaite trials, but he was also an occasional rider until a few years ago when he campaigned a Montesa 4RT in club trials.
When he finally decided to stop riding in trials he was always to be seen not only as an observer for his club, but he also supported the Westmorland MC when he marshalled at the club’s classic scrambles at the Westmorland Showground and Helsington and also at Barbon hill climb. The family name continues of course with his son David a regular trials rider and also the Bassenthwaite Club’s Stanley Tallentire trial, named after Dick’s father, which is held every December near Mungrisdale.
We have no further information with regard to funeral arrangements, but offer condolences to his family and friends.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
