Presidents turns out a tough one

When the Bootle club use Po House for a Northern Centre Championship round, it’s likely to be a challenging trial and that was exactly the situation for the Presidents Trial where the scores over the four laps of ten sections were generally high.
The seven riders on the hard course certainly had a tough time with Tom Swindlehurst winning the trial on 40 marks lost, some 18 ahead of Wilf Shuttleworth with Joe Hiley in third place – three riders who will representing the Northern Centre at the Inter Centre Team Trial in a couple of weeks across the Elite A and B categories.
Section four obviously proved to be far too difficult for the class as all bar Joe Hiley scored maximums every time with Hiley managing a three just once. Yet for the 50/50 Green course and Clubman riders it was far less severe with several riders managing four cleans.
James Johnson won the Green course class from Ben Croasdale and Jake Gowan whilst the two Clubman classes, Under 40 and Over 40, it was the older group who succeeded with local garage owner Tony Barrow winning by just a single mark from Nick Shield, 21 to 22 with Anthony Hayhurst a further 20 marks behind in third.
