Richard’s Roughton win

Richard’s Roughton win

Round 2 of the Northern Centre Championship for 2025 took place at Roughton Gill with the Memorial Trial organised by Cumberland County MCC and which attracted 53 riders.

Three laps of 12 sections was the offering at this deep Cumbrian venue on a very cold day that turned wet in the early afternoon. Lowest score of the day was by the ever youthful Nick Shield who lost just 6 marks to win the Over 60 class from Ian Cheetham and Duncan Macdonald who was making a very rare appearance in a Northern Centre trial on his very special Cub.

Anthony Seales was the best Over 50 clubman and Trevor Fawkes topped the Over 40 class whilst Sam Metcalfe  was well ahead by 14 of James Scowcroft to win the Green course. Richard Allen, who specialises in providing the sport with used spare parts for so many variations of trials bikes was enjoying a Autumn holiday in the Lakes and took in this trial and at the same time took up the offer from Craig Asbridge to ride his Chinese Tenaci-wong in the event. The 200cc, fuel injected four stroke was a machine that Allen had never previously ridden and was totally surprised, that after a lap of adjustment, found the bike to be extremely competitive and a joy to ride to finish second in the Over 50 clubman class and  joint fourth overall.

The super smooth riding style of Richard Gaskell took him to the narrowest of victories over the hard course as he lost 15 marks, the same as Cameron Brice but got the verdict on the most cleans tie decider with Tom Swindlehurst a single mark behind.

Unfortunately, there are no Kitch pictures again this week as Eric continues to recover from his fall. Numerous riders have enquired after his well-being and will be pleased to learn that he is recovering well. Having visited him  several times since he fell at home in the kitchen, Kitch is looking and sounding much improved. It’s ironic that after years of traipsing the hillsides, laiden down with cameras, it should be at home, in the kitchen, that Eric Kitchen should take a tumble. We wish him well and look forward to his return soon.
