Tommy Addison dies at 77
It is with much regret that we report the passing of Tommy Addison on March 19. For many years Tommy was the long standing Chairman of the Barrow Club and was responsible for establishing the security of the club after some difficult times.Tommy Addison was a regular competitor in most trials in the Northern Centre but as the sport progressed, Tommy preferred to enjoy his riding by competing in classic trials such as the classic Manx 2 day trial until fairly recently when his illness prevented him from continuing. He had some significant success in the Classic Manx finishing second to Peter Salt in the 2002 event and was also a past winner of the Cumberland County Club’s Mike Hodgson classic trial. Tiger Cubs were his preferred choice of machine for classic trials – the standard 199cc version being his machine being his regular ride rather than larger, bored out versions.. His passing is a great loss to the sport in Cumbria and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
Tommy passed away peacefully at his home, Seatle Barn, aged 77 years, beloved husband of Christine, much loved dad of Helen and Michael and father in law to David, loving grandad of James, Lisa, Alfie and Freya and a loved brother, uncle and friend to many. The funeral service will take place at St Peter’s Church, Field Broughton on Tuesday 1st April at 11am. Family flowers only please. Donations, if so desired are for Parkinsons UK and St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston and can be made online via www.saundersfunerals.com or sent to Saunders & Son Funeral Directors, West Winds, Allithwaite Road, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, LA11 7EP.
