A trio of class winners at the tallontire

Three winners, three different classes – that’s the result from the Bassenthwaite Club’s open to centre Stanley Tallontire Trial held over the high fells between Caldbeck and Mosedale in the Lake District on the opening Sunday of December.

For a change the temperature was mild but persistent rain all day was marginally better for all concerned as frequently this trial (when not cancelled due to weather) can be bitterly cold and often frosty.

The class winners were Centre Trials Recorder Anthony Hayhurst in the clubman category on 15, three marks ahead of Mark  Quinn with Neil Wilson a further four marks behind , then over the green course Sam Metcalfe seems to be making this category very much his own with a comfortable win over Lewis Gaskell and then local lad David Baxter who hasn’t been trialing for a number of months, whilst Centre Champion Tom Swindlehurst was well ahead of Jack Dixon and father Steve Dixon who was giving his TY Yamaha Mono one of its occasional outings.

Whilst three laps of ten sections was a shorter offering than most trials, the lap length had had been extended with some new hazards introduced and though the temperature was reasonable for the time of year, it was most definitely a damp day.

The final two sections of the day were doubled up and only one rider through the 36 strong entry cleanned the very long hazard each time and that was David Baxter whilst Kaytlyn Adshead had her TRS stall twice while looking good for cleans, perhaps due to an ingress of water from several increasingly deep stream crossings.
