Brothers Gowan score at Bootle
If your name happens to be Gowan, then there is a fair chance that person is likely to be high up in the results of any of Bootle Scramble Club’s trials at Fell Green. And that was exactly the case at the Northern Centre Championship Presidents trial when both the Gowan lads won their respective classes.
Older brother Jake won the Green course class, a mix of the hard course and clubman course sections, with the loss of 27 marks which was 20 fewer than the score of runner up Cameron Batty and it was older brother Kevin Seward who was third.
Younger brother Joel had a totally demoralising ride in the Clubman class on his rorty 250 BSA, losing just 4 marks in the Clubman under 40 category from Joseph Johnson on 37 and Jackson Edwards, despite a unexpected tumble from a track above down into a stream, who took third.
In the Over 40 class Mark Barrow and Anthony Hayhurst had a battle royale with their final scores separating them by just 2 marks, Barrow on 27 and Hayhurst 29.
Which leaves the Hard course. These days there is only likely to be one winner from the top centre lads in the form of Tom Swindlehurst and that was again the case but with not such a large margin as he has recently managed. This time it was only 4 marks in front of Steve Dixon with Joe Hiley another 6 further back.
Being a Centre round, the trial was intentionally a bit more difficult than is the norm for Fell Green but that didn’t put off the 38 strong entry of which there were only 2 retirements through the four long laps incorporating 10 sections.
