Brownrigg battlers
Fresh from riding in Westmorland’s evening trial four days earlier, Peter Clibburn and Andrew Scott renewed their rivalry when both took part in the Cumberland County Club’s Frank Smith Easy Series trial at Brownrigg Fell on August 17.
With a clean sheet, Scott had won the evening trial by Westmorland, with Clibburn second on one, but the positions were reversed at Brownrigg Fell with Clibburn winning on the day with the loss of six marks, whilst Scott could only manage sixth place on 21.
Forty two riders took part on a baking hot day with Gavin Brown and Stuart Mowbray second and third on the main clubman course, whilst on the easy course, Michael Wilkinson and Paul Westgarth lost just a single mark with Ossy Byers second on 2. Graham Knight, who had won the easy class the previous Wednesday, this time finished fourth.
