Expect Changes in the New Year

Just as we approach Christmas, here’s wishing everybody who visits this site a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Talking about the New Year, it could be a busy few weeks for trials riders in Cumbria and surrounding counties with events scheduled for every weekend at least until the middle of April.

The calendar available on this site will be updated very soon (it’s accurate until the end of February) when the rest of the 2026 dates are added, however, riders who attend most of the trials before then will be able to collect a  pre-printed Centre Calendar of events for the whole year. Mike Rapley will be distributing them, so see him or your local club who should have a small supply. They are free of charge of course, courtesy of the Northern Centre.

Briefley then, January 1 is the Cumberland County New Year’s Day trial at Nord Vue, Armathwaite, then on January 4 Bassenthwaite have the Turner Trophy Trial, a round of the Northern Centre Championship at Baggra Yeat near Caldbeck.

On the 11th Lakes GTRC are running a multi class trial at Holmscales followed a week later with the Bootle Club’s Fell Green trial which is another Northern Centre Championship round.

Westmorland also have a Northern Centre Championship round on January 25 with the Lonsdale Trial starting from the club’s own land at Firbank. This is a road based trial and entries will be ON-LINE THROUGH THE ACU SPORT 80 SYSTEM. Westmorland are trying the ACU system as when running a road based trial, it’s good to know in advance the likely number of riders. Entries can be available on the day for a surcharge for those unable to confirm attendance in advance. Lonsdale entries are open now.

At this point it’s only fair to point out that from February 1 when the 2026 ACU licences come into use that we expect ALL clubs to check licences at signing on – which we accept hasn’t always happened in the past. The reason being is that now ACU licences contain an element of personal accident insurance for the first time, it’s crucial that every entrant into the trial has a licence so that should the worst happen, then they are covered for whatever health benefits they may need. Don’t think it can’t happen to you, because as has been shown by a well known local rider just this year, it is very easy for something to happen and to need medical care.
