Full update for July
It’s time for a bit of an update what with July rapidly approaching, not to mention the last weekend of June.
Starting at the earliest, on Saturday, June 27 the Westmorland Club have the famous Percy Duff Barbon Hill Climb at Barbon of course where there is an excellent entry of rapid hillclimbers on a wide variety of machinery and well worth a visit for an hour or two or even longer. It all starts just after nine with practice runs at the 813 metre winding hill followed by timed race runs throughout the day. Each rider gets a total of 5 runs at the hill with the fastest 15 getting a go in the final knockout down to the final top 5 – and of course many have more than one machine so it’s definitely action all day. Entrance to the venue is just £10 with children free and the parking is excellent with refreshments available all day.
Moving on 24 hours and Bootle have a club trial at Fell Green for a 10.30 start offering 4 laps of ten sections with entries taken on the day. That’s on June 28.
Then on Wednesday, July 1 Lakes GTRC have a second Wednesday evening trial but at the time of penning this, the location has not been announced. Keep an eye on Facebook and there’s bound to be a location announced soon.
The Centre calendar says that Barrow have a trial on July 5 but this has been dropped in preference for another trial later in the month, which means we now move on to an addition to the calendar with a Saturday afternoon trial at Helsington, just off the Kendal by-pass to co-incide with Westmorland’s classic scramble the following day.
The trial will start at 2pm and will be the Dave Parkinson Charity trial making use of the land at the scramble course. This is all on July 11 and will be a easy trial in the hope that folks – including some of the scramblers already at the venue will bring a suitable or even a non-suitable bike to tackle the easy sections. Enter at the start of course. It’s open to everybody no matter age, ability, or bike . The classic scramble is on Sunday July 12 with a full entry of scramblers for this popular venue and again the entrance fee is the same as for Barbon.
Sedbergh DMC are also down for a trial on the 12th, but to date have no information on that potential event.
Westmorland have the International 3 Day Road Run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 13-15 with entries from Peter Remington via his Facebook page then also on the 15th the club have their second Wednesday evening trial at Lamb Howe near Winster, LA8 8JE, a good venue with interesting sections. Start time is 6.30pm with entries that evening.
As mentioned, it’s a busy month with Barrow next organising the Diane Shield Charity Trial in memory of her for her favourite charity “Make a Wish Foundation”. Nick Shield is putting the trial together at Tow Tops, High Newton and he’s expecting a good entry to match the numbers this trial has enjoyed in the past. There’s also a massive raffle for a load of goodies which will be available to view and of course take home if you are a winner. Donations also gratefully received – you could even win what you brought if such a coincidence happened!! Entries at the start for 10.30 and the date is July 19.
To round off the month, Lakes GTRC have another evening trial on Wednesday 23rd and Cumberland County have the Velocette Cup Trial at Roughton Ghyll on the last Sunday of the month 26th.
PS – almost forgot, there’s a World Trial at Anglesey on July 24/25/26 if anybody’s interested!!
Phewee!
