Joe heads our Scott stars

Last Saturday’s Scott Trial once again attracted a near full house entry and with late entries and a number of non-starters taken into account, 183 riders took to the start line where former Prime Minister and local MP Richie Sunak flagged all the riders off at 20 second intervals. There were 92 confirmed finishers within the time limit

There were 11 riders from or based very close to the Northern Centre with an unfortunately high attrition rate this year. Joe Hiley was the highest finisher of “our” group, finishing in a fine 37th place and with it he took the Herbert Scott Cup for the rider making best performance in their first appearance in the trial – a fine effort and at number 50, he led the field for a long time before the really quick guys caught him and went past.

Jack Dixon was just one position lower in 38th with Tom Swindlehurst in 42nd. Jamie Bingley and Patrick Wardle both from the Carlisle area these days also finished in  60th and 64th position respectively.

Retirements – for a wide variety of reasons were by (in start order) Connor Anderson, Ian McKean, Ryan Proctor, Gavin Hazlett, Lewis Gaskell and Cameron Brice.

The trial was won by George Hemingway with the loss of 28 marks in total from brother Harry who was just three marks behind. Our thanks to Neil Sturgeon for his superb photo highlighting the moment George learnt he had won and to Harry for being the best big brother anyone  could have.

There’s some great videos by the “2 wheels off-road” team on You Tube highlighting the action from the start field, Orgate, Reels Head, Rawcroft, By Pass, Whaw Bridge, Reels Head again and Rotten Wood, all of which were or will be available from the evening of the trial until mid-week following.
