Joel wins the first evening trial
The first of three planned evening trials by the Westmorland Club took place on June 10 at High Bracken Fold Farm, where just 27 riders rode four laps of ten slippery sections.
Joel Hazlett proved to be the winner of the Clubman class, losing just a single mark over the rock steps of section 8 where Ike Myers – a regular supporter of the club as an observer – marked a dab on the observer’s card. Matt Edmondson lost just three single marks to be the second placed finisher with Richard Fisher, supporting the club from the Northern reaches of the centre was third on ten.
Also supporting the club from the north of Cumbria was Graham Knight who proved the best performer over the easier sections which proved to be more testing than expected, by losing 33 marks whilst riding his 156 Fantic. Dan Atkinson was second on a tidy 310 Montesa – an air-cooled monoshock rarely seen in club trials these days, with Neil Buckley who chose to ride some of the sections on the harder route to be third.
The opening section of the trial was a long, very narrow rocky stream that was incredibly slippery to begin with but inevitably improved with the passage of wheels, but even so only 5 riders cleaned it four times through the evening which included Andrew Scott on his immaculate 185 BSA.
