Locals take Lakes spoils
It was a successful two days for local riders in last weekend’s Lakes MTA, Lakes Two Day Trial which celebrated its 50th anniversary having first been held in 1976.
Richard Gaskell finished the Clubman course as the winner with the loss of 27 marks with Jack Dixon second on 36 and father Stephen third – riding a TY 250 Yamaha – on 37 marks lost whilst overnight Clubman leader James Johnson slipped to fifth behind Russ bRooksby.
A disappointing entry of Expert riders resulted in just six from the class finishing the trial with Billy Green the winner on a score of 49 from last year’s victor, Andy Chilton on 77. Third place was taken by Scottish rider Aaron Dowell on a score more than double that of the runner up.
Horrendous weather with torrential rain and high winds hit the trial throughout the first day of action held principally over the large Corney Fell area, which resulted in a significant number of riders retiring for the day with some declining to ride the second day which thankfully was held in mild, dry and generally bright and sunny weather.
The trial proved to be a very tough event with many sections criticised by the numerous clubman riders as quite simply too difficult and at times dangerous for a trial generally considered to be aimed at clubman riders – a criticism offered at times of past events .
