Slippery win for Matt at Lindale

The late John Holmes was a stalwart member of the Westmorland Club, a quiet, unassuming gentleman who was a genius when it came to engineering and in particular preparing Triumph Cubs for trials, and the final club event for 2023 was held in memory of John at the club’s own land at Lindale.

In comparison with many events this year, there was a decent turnout of riders with 45 entered, certainly not a large number, but acceptable in the circumstances, boosted perhaps by the cancellation of other trials that would have taken entries.

Held over two routes, a standard Clubman route, that was quite hard in the incredibly slippery conditions and a Clubman Easy route which still took a few marks but which was just right for those who want an easier day.

Matthew Edmondson came out top over the main course and Carl Winstanley won the easy route on a day when the excellent venue was blessed with bright sunny weather as the season of Autumn quickly approaches.

The course was set out by Colin Benson, Ike Myers and Spud Tatham, and though these three gents are not in the first flush of youth, they certainly didn’t spare the younger riders, with a good selection of sections very different to others used previously. In fact they saw the venue in a different way and both sections four and five were major marks takers. Only runner up Richard Taylor managed four cleans of section four, a turn to a double step but lost the bulk of his marks on the following section where numerous riders kept in single figure scores with Lee Perie the best on the tight turn with a single dab.

Full results are on the results page and Kitch pics will appear Monday or perhaps Tuesday. Meanwhile, our lead picture is of winner Matthew Edmondson on section 5.
