The Brice and Barrow boys are in battle

Take two pairs of riders, each with the same surname, in this case Brice and Barrow and there’s every chance they will come first and second in a club trial, which is exactly what happened at the Bootle club’s first round of the Gowan Construction club championship for 2026 on November 23 at Fell Green.

Father Darren Brice beat son Cameron to win the hard course after four laps of 10 sections, with Tom Swindlehurst third and Aran Drachenberg fourth whilst in the Clubman over 40 category Tony Barrow finished ahead of his cousin Mark Barrow by a single mark after the same number of sections.

There’s always a wide variety of sections to choose from at this venue on the west coast of Cumbria and at this wintery time of year, the lap length is kept shorter in case of inclement weather.

In the under 40 category of Clubman, Johnathan Cooper again shone as his riding seems to improve with every outing by matching the scores of the Barrow duo whilst young Alfie Drachenberg, who was the only rider to attempt the Green course, so had that category sewn up.
