Over the past 40 years (maybe even more) not only has Eric Kitchen been a regular photographer on the World trials scene, but so has another Cumbrian, a great friend of Eric’s and also one of the best known characters in Cumbrian trials.

Ian Abbott was a top class expert trials rider back in the ‘seventies and early ‘eighties and a man who continues to follow the sport, not just at local level but also at world level for he attends nearly every World Championship trial, driving his familiar black van all over Europe to photograph such events.

He photographs for the FIM’s records collator, Charly Demathieu, who, until his age and conditions meant he could no longer attend trials but who continues to record all the analysis of the sport .

Ian was recently presented with a certificate recognising his contribution to World Trials (lead picture), by former World Champion Gilles Burgat, and still continues to send his pictures to Charly following every event. He’s no mean photographer as is illustrated by this picture of Miguel Gelabert practising at a recent world round.
