Batty is Bowston’s best

Using the excellent Ghyll Farm, Bowston venue, the Sedbergh Club opened the first of their series of six trials planned for 2025 with three laps of 12 sections, intentionally set out on the easy side which attracted an excellent entry of 76 riders who rode any one of three routes through the sections.

The course opened with several hillside turns leading to a final big climb which helped clear out oiled two-stroke engines but which was cleaned many times though numerous riders failed to make it to the top of the bone dry climb.. Then it was a mix of  several rocky streams at this venue with other sections over the  rock outcrops which, thanks to a prolonged dry spell, were all fairly easy, yet many riders managed to lose marks through the turns between rocks.

Neil Wilson, Chris Burrow, Phil Haygarth

Cameron Batty, finally found the form of which he is capable following a prolonged spell recovering from a broken foot (sustained during football), to win the Clubman class with the loss of just two marks followed by Neil Wilson and Lee Perie on three and Peter Blowers and Ben Hanson – last week’s winner – on four. Ghyll Farm is of course home to the Batty family, so perhaps it should be no surprise that Cameron came out the winner, but even so, everybody has to do it on the day, no matter how familiar they may be with the course and in this case, the Youth B lad did just that.

Only four riders chose to ride the hard course so it was no surprise that Tom Swindlehurst was easily the best from Owen Gilchrist on 21 to 37.

The Easy course  attracted nearly 25% of the entry with David Broderick winning , losing 8 marks from Andrew Emmerson on 19 and Ryan Tippett on 23.
