Close finish at Aughertree
Trevor Fawkes (lead picture) and Simon Brice had a very close finish in the Cumberland County Club’s opening Frank Smith series of easy trials at Aughertree near Caldbeck in the middle of February on their Betas, with Fawkes claiming the win by a single mark from Brice.
Yet another bitterly cold but dry day with a chilling wind made it pretty miserable for those not riding, yet the trial attracted a decent entry of 44 riders to thiss far-flung outpost of the sport in the heart of the Lake District. Lewis Gaskell was in third place over the main adult clubman course whilst on the easier version of the sections it was Gordie Oliver who succeeded from Tony Johnston with just two marks separating them.
The small number of youth riders were headed by Aaron Oliver, a B class youngster who shows lots of promise as he rides the main adult clubman sections with a final score that put him in overall ninth place.
