Dean Moor perfectly groomed for West Cumbria

Report: Arran Murphy

The West Cumbria Motocross Club held its first and second rounds of the 2023 club championship at the perfectly groomed Dean Moor circuit and with the sun shining the season kicked off with a bang.

As always first up were the young Auto pilots and it was Olly McLean who dominated the day taking all three wins ahead of Eillie Miller who finished second overall while Archie Armstrong took two thirds and a fourth to give himself third on the box.

In the Junior 65 category 2022 runner up Jenson Branney took home maximum points to kickstart his season in style ahead of second placed Oliver Lee while Shai Rome finished the day third overall.

Connor Thompson dominated the Small Wheel 85 class claiming all three wins on his way to the top step of the podium ahead of Declan Cook who took runner up on the tie break with Brooklyn Tinkler by way of the final race result.

In the Big Wheel 85 group Frankie Jupp took home a bag full of wins and the overall honours ahead of Mayson Dockeray who took second and third place went to Kieran Reveley.

Charlie Henderson took the Youth Open victory with two wins and a runner up to pip Liam Johnston by just three points to the overall honours. Johnston claimed the first race win but in the end had to settle for runner up on the day while Ryan Lowes finished third.

In the Adult C under 30 class Nathan Spiers ended the day with three race victories and the series lead after day one as he took home the top spot from Dan Logan who pushed hard all day but in the end had to settle for second overall. Martyn Connor rounded out the top 3 in third.

It was Dave Cowsill who took the overall victory in the Over 30 class taking all three wins ahead of Clark Davidson who managed to overhaul Steve Riley for second overall by just two points after Riley had a race two fifth.

Jack Murray continued his run of form in 2023 taking the overall victory in the Adult B class with two wins and a second ahead of first race winner Samuel Carruthers who evetually had to settle for second. Mark Parker rounded out the top three in third.

In the Adult A class Graham Riley returned to the track he’s had a lot of success at in the past and claimed three race wins and the overall ahead of second placed Frazer Hansen. Rookie to the class Robbie Park took home the final spot on the podium.

Day two was greeted with cooler conditions and a tacky circuit providing some excellent racing throughout.

The Auto riders were first to hit the track and Olly McLean carried his Saturday form into Sunday as he claimed another maximum points haul but this time from Archie Armstrong in second while Alfie Blacklock finished the weekend with third overall.

Consistency was key in the Junior 65 class as Oliver Lee took the overall honours taking a brace of runner up spots. Jenson Branney recovered from his first race mishap to claim the final two race wins to help him to second overall while race one winner Riley Marwood finished the weekend third overall.

In the Small Wheel 85 category Connor Thompson was the second rider of the day to claim maximum points as he dominated the day even winning the 85 races outright against the big wheel riders. Declan Cook took home second and Jimmy Wilson rounded out the top three in third.

A 4-1-1 scorecard was enough for Mayson Dockeray to take the Big Wheel 85 overall victory by three points from race one winner Harry Cartmel who had to settle for an eventual second overall. Kieran Reveley took home third.

Charlie Henderson put on a masterful display in the Youth Open category as he took home three wins on the day and his second overall win of the weekend. Liam Johnston couldn’t quite catch the KTM pilot and had to settle for runner up ahead of Thomas Carruthers.

There was some tight scraps in the Adult C Under 30 class as Nathan Spiers and Dan Logan battled it out for the win. Spiers managed to claim two races to Logans one meaning he took the overall ahead of the Yamaha man. Jordan Khamouli finished the day with a hat trick of third place finishes for third overall.

In the Over 30 class Stephen Humphries claimed the overall honours with two wins and a second from second race winner J Branney. Shawn Williamson rounded off the top three in third.

In the Adult B class Jack Murray consolidated his series lead after round 1 with another overall win in round 2 taking maximum points. Runner up on the day was Mark Parker while Todd Ingram finished the day third overall.

In the Adult A class Frazer Hansen took the overall with two wins and a second ahead of first race winner Robbie Park who took an eventual second and Arran Murphy rounded out the podium in third.
