Double tops for family Drachenberg

Both father and son, Aran and Alfie Drachenberg from Tosside topped the two classes in Westmorland’s second evening club championship trial with Aran dropping just a single mark on section ten of the clubman course with Alfie losing five on the easy clubman course, most of those on the tricky third section which became more slippery as the evening progressed.

Held on the club’s own land at Lindale, the venue was in total contrast to a year ago when the land was baked hard with barely a bit of green grass to be seen; this year the grass was green, slippery and luscious which made for a much better trial.

Split in to two courses of ten sections, the third section was definitely the most difficult with only the senior Drachenberg going clean despite valiant attempts by runner up Matt Edmondson and third placed Andrew Scott to conquer this slippery and twisting path over grass and rock.

It’s almost guaranteed that the course setters will use the long and steep and narrow rock stream bed close to the top of the steep venue, but this time the rocks were well bedded down and whilst the section took plenty of marks, it was not as difficult as normal, but wait for a heavy storm and no doubt it will roughen up for future events.

All credit to the 32 strong entry for whizzing round the trial to get finished well before dusk which made clearing up easy for all.
