Expensive mistakes at Bootle
It’s crucial when riding a trial that is known to be four laps of ten sections to ensure that each and every section is located within the marked route as a failure to miss a section, and to miss it four times, is going to make a mess of one’s result no matter how well or poorly one may have ridden. So because the two riders in question who shall remain nameless within this report but can be identified within the results, failed to locate section ten of the Bootle Club’s Christmas Fun Trial at Fell Green, their expected results of second and third place in the clubman class of the event, proved to be a lot worse.
But it was only a “Fun” trial and both these very experienced riders will not be overly concerned at their mistakes.
For those who managed to ride 40 sections and not 36, it was Stuart Gaskell on his 175 Yamaha on which he won the 2023 Leven Valley Two Day Trial who proved to be victorious winning the over 40 class, with Lee Southam taking the under 40 class clubman win on his smart 315 Montesa. Lewis Gaskell and Johnathan Cooper who were next best whilst Ethan King won the Green course route from Nigel Birkett, riding regularly now in preparation for his 52nd Scottish (assuming he gets an entry!!!!!!).
Several riders were having their second ride of the weekend having been at the Ripon Christmas Trial the previous day which included the father and son duo of Gavin and Joel Hazlett. Tom Middleton was the Hard course winner from Joel Gowan who was testing, successfully, the top of the range EM for a future test report in the TMX Magazine.
