Gaskell looking for Over 40 title
Richard Gaskell from Keswick, undoubtedly one of the best trials riders in Cumbria for the past 25 years, has been contesting the National S3 Parts Over 40 Championship with resounding success.
After six of the planned eight rounds, Gaskell comfortably leads the championship with 89 points, whilst his closest rival, Phil Wiffen has 76 points. Gaskell’s 89 points come from two class wins, two seconds and a third from five rides – he didn’t contest the Colmore trial which was the second round, and his recent ride in the Dave Rowland Trial in which he was credited with second place, was actually a tie on four marks lost with the winner (Ben Ludgate), Gaskell losing the tie break on furthest clean, both riders taking four dabs during the trial.
Two rounds remain with the Travers Trial in September and the Jack Wood in October, so his efforts with two decent rides to come should prove beneficial.
The S3 series is a highly regarded championship with over 100 riders in every round and is effectively just one step down from the main British Championship
