John Holmes trial rounds off Westmorland’s year

As a hectic year for the Westmorland Club draws to a close having organised three classic scrambles, a tarmac hill climb, a three day road-run and seven trials, the final event of 2024 is the John Holmes Trial which will be held on Sunday October 27 at the club’s own land at Lindale, starting at 10.30am with all entries taken on the day.
The late John Holmes was a respected member of the club, known for his innovative engineering skills and it was twIn-shock and pre 65 bikes in which he was particularly interested. The trial wIll be specifically aimed at riders on twin-shocks and pre 65s, but entries will also be accepted from riders on modern machines, though it is emphasised that the trial will be particularly planned with twin-shocks and pre 65 bikes in mind.
Three laps of 13 sections is the likely offering with two routes, a normal clubman twin-shock standard course and an easy route. Planning 13 sections means that also 13 observers will be needed so it is hoped that the club’s regular supporters will be able to attend. Just about every section in all of this year’s Westmorland trials have been manned by enthusiastic observers, so it is hoped this will happen once again at the year’s final event.
