Last round battles for title points

Last round battles for title points

With the Northern Centre Trials Championship entering its final days, the Bootle Club’s Presidents Trial began the first of the final three rounds with a good entry in all three classes at Fell Green on a mild, dry day in mid-August.

Absent from several rounds earlier in the year due to commitments in British Championship rounds, Tom Swindlehurst was back to local events with a calculated and clear win over Stephen Dixon, 11 marks to 23 with James Postlethwaite in third on 24 marks but with more cleans than Darren Brice who lost the same number of marks. A totally unofficial count of the Northern Centre Championship points scored to date puts Dixon on 73 with Postlethwaite on 65 and Swindlehurst on 61, so it’s very much all to play for in the final two rounds, the Revenge on September 17 and the Grant a week later on the 24th.

Jack Dixon

In the Green class, a mix of 50/50 sections, Jack Dixon, Steve’s son is way ahead of anybody else, in fact he can’t be beaten as he has a 35 points lead over his closest rival, Andrew Payne, 85 to 50 and by winning the class in the Presidents with a clean sheet only accentuated his domination of the category. Payne was second and Gavin Hazlett third but the destination of the Centre trophy for the Green class is heading young Dixon’s way.

It has been a similar level of domination in the overall Clubman class with Simon Brice also unbeatable with a 27 point advantage and with only 20 points available from the next two rounds, he can’t be beaten. He too was the winner of the Clubman category in the Presidents which was held over four laps of 12 sections at the Bootle Club’s regular Fell Green location.. Brice, who has campaigned a four stroke Beta this year has been challenged regularly by Anthony Hayhurst who sits second in the table with 49 points, but it must be emphasised that the championship scores are totally unofficial and have yet to be ratified at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
