Robin Hood results from Glenridding
Only one rider in each class, Hard Course and Clubman course, managed to achieve four cleans of section nine in Sunday’s Robin Hood Trial organised by the Bassenthwaite club, and those two riders, Simon Brice (lead picture) in the Clubman class and Tom Swindlehurst in the Expert Hard course both won their respective categories.
Brice in particular had a cracking ride, losing only two marks throughout the four laps of ten sections in the wonderful Glenridding valley where Red Tarn Beck flows over the white rocks before entering Ullswater. A dab on section one and another on section four was his only loss whilst Anthony Hayhurst who was six marks adrift was obviously finding that a new bike also equals an uplift in results.
Riding the only twinshock in the trial, on his his faithful Yamaha Majesty, Nick Shield was third, sharing the position with his pal Gary Bingley, another rider back into action after a prolonged lay-off from the sport. Shield had an unexpected five on section nine, a twisting climb over the rocks in one of the many becks that flow from the hillside to feed the Red Tarn Beck in the valley bottom when he took a dab only to find that his safety dab was not quick enough to prevent a tumble.
The Green course riders had a tough outing with Stuart Gaskell proving a comfortable and clear winner over long-time supporter of Northern Centre trials, Gary Pears, still on his Yamaha engined Scorpa that has probably done more Scottish Six Day Trials than any other machine.
This trial was the third in a sequence of Northern Centre Championship events and with a 66 rider strong entry, the Bassenthwaite club will have been happy to have had a successful event after being forced to cancel their two previous trials due to weather conditions in December and January.
The results from the Bassenthwaite Club’s Robin Hood trial are now available from the Results link on the Home page – please note that these results differ from those issued on Sunday night.
