Super clean ride by Joel

Joel Hazlett was the only rider to finish Wednesday night’s Westmorland trial at Lindale with a clean sheet – a fine achievement at an event that was basically a very easy evening of sport but which had one really tricky section to test the riders.

After the disappoint number of entries at the first round of the three round evening series, round 2 attracted an excellent number of riders totalling 48 which is a really good number and the club were delighted with the enthusiasm for the trial. In total contrast to 12 months earlier when the land was baked hard and all the grass was green, this time it was wet and the grass long and slippery, but the sections were basically on the simple side which appeared to be vertyu acceptable to the riders.

It was section three that was the hardest with only young Hazlett managing to achieve four cleans with his daad Gavin second best on two as he picked up third place having tied on markls with Gary Kitching. regular supporter of the club, Karl Ratcliffe was third on the loss of just six marks, all bar one on that tricky third section.

There were 14 riders on the easy course with James Robinson winning whilst the runner up spot wenet to Craig Asbridge on the most clkeans tie-breaker in the three way tie for the placing.

As an expoeriment, picked up from another club, the course was set out with the main route being the Clubman course with the easy route indicated by just a single pinkl flag to make the main route wider where deemed necessary, a system that worked very well and will be continued to save having too many marking flkaags, and which makes it easier for the clerk of the course laying out the hazards.

The full set of results are on the Results link from the home page; Eric Kitchen’s pictures will appear here soon and Phil Haygarth has an excellent video on You Tube which shows all ten sections via this link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjjzm-3I0ZY
