Alan Oversby dies in Billown crash
The world of classic road racing lost one of its greatest riders at the Blackfords Pre TT classic meeting on the Isle of Man with the death of Alan Oversby on Sunday, the last day of the three day meeting held over the Billown circuit at Castletown.
Alan Oversby, from Bolton-le-Sands, was a well known competitor to race fans in the north west and died following a crash during the second lap of the 400cc race having won both the 500cc and 350cc races earlier in the afternoon. His 350cc win was his 16th victory at the venue through a near 20 year career racing on the 4.25 mile Billown circuit.
He crashed having just started the second lap of the race whilst battling for the lead and was the only rider involved in the incident. The race was immediately red flagged whilst medical teams attended to him prior to his transfer to Nobles Hospital in Douglas.
Sincere condolences were immediately wished to all his team, family and the many friends in the classic scene including his sponsors Ruthless Racing and Tony Leach Joinery upon whose Kawasaki he was racing.
