The weather forecast said that it would rain at 12 noon. It was wrong! It started to rain at 12.07 and it was certainly rain that came down, bordering on sleet it was that cold.
So the 29 competitors in the Bassenthwaite Club’s Stanley Tallontire Memorial trial on the Cumbrian Carrock Fells near Mosedale had a miserable day in the weather, but had a great trial. One rider remarked that at one time, some years ago he had taken part in this trial with over 100 competitors taking part, so it’s a sad situation that today, with a more affluent society, the event is only able to atytract such a small entry. It’s remarkable that in this day and age that the sport is still permitted to enjoy such venues which brings to mind the term “use it or lose it”.

Adam Brayton was the winner of the clubman course which was ten sections over a all-off-road four mile lap,. with the loss of 26 marks, ten ahead of Anthony Hayhurst who was just one ahead of Richard Fisher. The course was the same for the hard course riders, with modified routes in the sections over which Stephen Dixon was the easy winner from Aran Drachenberg and in third Jack Dixon still riding his dad’s TY 250 mono as he awaits the arrival of a new Scorpa.
Young Alfie Drachenberg, still a Youth B rider was the only rider on the 50/50 Green course so was of course the winner.
