Brice Brothers take the Brady spoils

In the world of Northern Centre trials, just about everybody knew Tommy Brady. He passed away following a short illness some five years ago, but his name and reputation lives on via the Lakes GTRC, who each year hold a charity trial in his name.

The legendary Tommy Brady taken by Eric Kitchen in the Grant Trial some years ago.

As time passes, some riders who were among the 52 competitors in the club’s event at High Borrowbridge on June 15, will not have known Tommy, nor perhaps will they have heard of him. But for those who did, will know that he was a true character in the very real meaning of the word. A diminutive Irishman, he was a champion weight-lifter in his youth; he was a world class water-skier within a troupe performers who showed their ski talents all over the world; he was an astute businessman and in the later years of his life he took up trials riding, even competing in the Scottish Six Days Trial twice. He was also – perhaps unusally for a person of Irish descent – proud to say that never in his life did he partake of alcohol. “Mother told me never to touch the demon drink” he said, and he never did.

His passing meant a lot to many people and it is only right that the trials club of which he was a valued member, remembers him every year.

Brothers Darren and Simon Brice were the two class winners in the trial over the Hard and Clubman courses respectively, Older brother Darren went round clean following a day previously minding son Cameron in the first round of the Trial GB series,  with Matt Edmondson second on 7 and clerk of the course Anthony Hayhurst third on 12 in a class that attracted just four riders, whilst Simon finished on the loss of 3 marks from Rob Copeland on four. David Braithwaite and Gary Kitching shared third place on five.

The trial was generally a low scoring event with Gareth Edmondson winning the easy course on one as did Blake Wightman, and being an easy event, numerous riders shared the same score through the results which can be found from the Home page link.
