Chilled to the bones at Fell Green

Thee Northern Centre Trials Championship series returned with a vengeance on January 19 with the Bootle Club’s Fell Green trial held in the coldest of cold conditions at the Irish Sea coastal venue. Ten observers manned the ten sections and all stayed at their posts as Tom Swindlehurst continued his 2025 quest to retain his Northern Centre title in this the third round of the series following the cancellation of the Turner Trial earlier in the month.

With the loss of 34 marks, Swindlehurst was almost half the score of the runner up over the hard course who was Joe Hiley on 66 with Wilf Shuttleworth in third place followed by Richard Gaskell and James Postlethwaite.

Only four riders tackled the Green course which went to Ben Croasdale from Lewis Gaskell and Liam Robinson whilst Anthony Hayhurst had the narrowest of wins – just by two marks – over Nick Shield with Andy Downham in third, the scores of the three riders being 52, 54 and 55.

At the best of times Fell Green is a cold place, but is arguably one of the best trials venues available to any club anywhere so all credit to those who stayed the course as either a rider or observer and even photographer Kitch was there once more and his pictures are eagerly awaited over the next day or so.
