First Sorra round was a cracker

First Sorra round was a cracker

The Barrow Club requested back in late 2025 that they wished to hold a round of the Sorra Classic Trials Championship, and last Sunday that request came true with the first round of the 2026 series, held at the Old Railway Line, Torver – arguably one of the best areas for trials in the whole of the UK.

And the club put on a fantastic event that, judging by comments solicited from the riders, was totally spot on with the class scores at a level expected for this class of event. The Hard course was just that, hard, with the overall course winner being Richard Webster, who as a side note is also the co-ordinator of the series. He lost 38 marks aboard his RTL Honda in the Air-cooled mono class, from Liam Robinson on his much modified Greeves in the Britshock class on 41 with Nigel Scott third on 45, again on a RTL.

Moving onto the Intermediate class, 10, 11 and  23 were the three best scores spread between the various class categories with James Black the winner from Paul Heyes and local garage owner David Postlethwaite and also  Stephen Barnes, both on 23 but in different classes.

The easier clubman course was another that was simply spot on as requested by the co-ordinators. Peter Huddleston was best on 3, he’s a local guy from Coniston with his pal Chris Myers on 4, both riding the Triumph Tigress engined Specials manufactured by local engineer Jonty Myers, and both these unique bikes will appear in the forthcoming Pre 65 Scottish. Dave Wardell was also on 4 whilst Ian Myers (no relation to the others) was on 5. Low scores in the class keep everybody happy and that was definitely the feeling as riders spun their way out of the start field before starting their journeys home bound.

The Sorra series is over 8 rounds this year with each trial featuring three routes through every section and with four classes, Twinshsock, Britshock , Air-cooled Monoshock and Specials – bikes that have been heavily modified but are perhaps not quite genuine enough to be in any of the other three classes. The next round is in April by the Neath Club.
