Ready for a busy July?
It’s July 1, the morning this is being written, and it looks like it will be a busy month for sport in Cumbria. Of course, the calendar page is where to confirm event details as known at the time the calendar was created or modified from information received. But here’s a little bit more detail.
Beginning on Sunday, 6th, the Barrow club have the Henry Trial at the Old Railway Line, Torver which is down as a Youth centre championship round as well as a normal multi-class trial for adult riders. There will be the usual three routes available to ride over four laps of probably 10 or 12 sections. Peter Blowers is the rider likely to be setting out this trial. The club’s Angus Jenkinson will not be at this trial to take entries which this time will be handled by another club member, so don’t go looking for Angus, he won’t be there!
Peter Remington of the Westmorland Club has moved his International Three Day Rally Tour from the April date to July 7/8/9, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. This is a road bike tour of the Lakes and Dales, starting each day from Coniston Lead Mines and sponsored by Coniston Brewery’s enthusiastic owner Ian Bradley who has been a long time supporter of all things biking from the Westmorland Club. In order to control numbers, participants will have needed to enter in advance, so if you think you may join in, download the entry form from the Westmorland club website.
Moving on to July 13 and Westmorland are again in action with their Classic scramble at Helsington on the outskirts of Kendal. This has attracted lots of regular trials men as spectators but for those that prefer to ride rather than watch at the weekend, Sedbergh MC have a trial over 4 laps of 10 sections at Far Waterside Farm, Silverdale with a 10.30 start and entries on the day.
Round 2 of the Evening series of trials by the Westmorland Club will be on July 16 on the club’s own land at Lindale with a 6.30pm start. This will be the usual 4 laps, 10 sections and will have two routes, Clubman and Easy Clubman. Anybody on a trials bike welcome with the entry fee reduced to £15 this time which the club hopes will encourage a greater number of riders than they experienced at round 1.
More Westmorland action will take place on July 20 with the Grant Cup trial, a round of the Northern Centre Championship which will be at Tommy Road, Wharton near Kirkby Stephen. Malcolm Metcalfe and his excellent team of section plotters will be organising this trial once again with entries at the start which will be 10.30am.
Then finally for July, Cumberland County MCC have the Velocette Cup Trial at its regular venue, Roughton Gill near Caldbeck. No doubt Graham Teasdale will be supplying further information about the trial for publication here nearer the time.
