Spiers spikes Dean Moor glory

Rounds 3 and 4 of the West Cumbria Motocross Club championship were held at the superbly prepared Dean Moor circuit near Workington.

First up on Saturday were the Auto pilots and it was Daniel Morris who took home maximum points and stood on the top step of the podium followed home by Archie Armstrong who took second and Alfie Blacklock took two thirds and a fourth to take third overall.

Next up were the Junior 65 class with Jenson Branney extending his slim points lead by claiming three dominant wins. Shai Rome took home a brace of runner up spots for second overall and Taylor Dodd took home the third place trophy.

In the Small Wheel 85 category Sam Morris took two wins and a fourth giving him the overall honours from Brooklyn Tinkler who finished in the runner up spot overall. First race winner and series leader Connor Thompson finished the day in third overall.

Frankie Jupp dominated the Big Wheel 85 class taking maximum points ahead of Harry Cartmel who closed the gap at the top of the championship by 4 points over third place Mayson Dockeray.

In the Youth Open category Charlie Henderson consolidated his points lead taking two wins and a second for the overall honours ahead of closest rival and moto one winner Liam Johnston. Thomas Carruthers tied with Johnston for runner up overall but due to the first race win, Johnston got the nod.

In the Adult C Under 30 category Nathan Spiers took home a 3-1-1 scorecard for the overall victory and extended his championship lead in the process while Martyn Connor took home a well deserved runner up spot and Ethan Brierley was the first race winner and eventually had to settle for third overall.

It was Tony Whitelow who dominated the Over 30s class as he claimed maximum points for his efforts on day one ahead of series leader Stephen Humphries who managed to fend off the attentions of Clark Davidson to take home runner up on the tie break meaning Davidson had to settle for third this time around.

Jack Murray continued on with his dominant season in the Adult B category taking another brace of moto wins and stretched his points lead even further from Yamaha mounted Samuel Carruthers. Carruthers pushed Murray hard all day but in the end took home the runner up spot for his efforts and Todd Ingram rounded out the top three in third.

North east rider Jamie Fort made the trip across the A66 worthwhile by claiming the overall victory in the Adult A class ahead of Frazer Hansen who took second overall on the day tied with Honda man John Joe Wright.

With the rain coming in later on Sunday the club did an excellent job in getting racing started early and finished just before the skies opened meaning a great day’s racing was had once again.

It was back to business on day two for Daniel Morris as he claimed all three Auto victories on his way to standing on the top step of the podium ahead of Alfie Blacklock, who did his championship no harm by claiming second. Archie Armstrong should have taken over the points lead claiming third on the day as series leader Olly McLean had a race 2 DNF dropping vital points.

In the Junior 65 category Jenson Branney took two wins and a second spot to top the overall charts ahead of Shai Rome who with a last moto victory managed to boost him to runner up overall. Taylor Dodd rounded out the top three in third.

Harry Hall claimed maximum points in the Small Wheel 85 class after some titanic battles with saturday winner Sam Morris, Morris went home with a bag full of second spots on day two while Brooklyn Tinkler finished the weekend with a 3-4-3 results sheet for third overall.

Even with missing round 2 Frankie Jupp is proving to be the man to beat in the Big Wheel 85 class as he romped to three masterful victories and the overall for the third time this season. Harry Cartmel was runner up once again but more importantly closed in on his closest rival for the championship Mayson Dockeray who finished third.

Liam Johnston managed to claim maximum points and the overall victory to turn the tables in the Youth Open class and stop the dominance of Charlie Henderson. Thomas Carruthers managed to get in between the flying KTM pair this time and finish runner up on the day while Henderson had to settle for third overall this time around.

Nathan Spiers continued on his dominant run of form and took his fourth overall win from four rounds in the Adult C Under 30 class. Daniel Logan had a better day on  Sunday and bagged himself runner up while Anthony Maughan rounded off the top three.

A win and two second place finishes was enough for Tony Whitelaw to do the double and take home overall honours once again in the Over 30s category. Dave Cowsill rebounded from a first race fifth to claim the remaining two race wins and second overall while Ben Southward picked up the third place trophy.

In the Adult B class Jack Murray claimed another overall win with two firsts and a second ahead of final moto winner Samuel Carruthers. Todd Ingram kept his title fight alive by finishing the day third overall.

It was another North East rider who managed to take home the spoils in the Adult A class this time in the way of former BYMX and European 85 rider Dan Hutchinson. The Husqvarna rider too maximum points ahead of series regular Frazer Hansen as John Joe Wright added another third overall to his weekend tally.
