Velocette win goes to Nick
Roughton Gill, Fellside near Caldbeck is a remote but wonderful Cumbrian blind valley that has hosted motorcycle trials for decades, and thanks to the Lake District National Park, and the Caldbeck Commoners, continues to do so to this day by the Cumberland County MCC and their enthusiastic members.
The Velocette Trial was once a Northern Centre Championship round but is now a clubmen event that still attracts a talented entry and the event on Sunday, July 27 once again was over a four laps of ten sections of this very rideable but tiring course.
Nick Shield was the Adult Clubman route winner, losing just seven marks with Richard Fisher on ten and then north eastern visitor Ian Cheetham – now riding a Montesa 4RT on 12 for third place.
Relatively gentle, but nontheless slippery becks was the offering which proved ideal for the 33 strong entry where Paul Corbishley was the Adult Easy course winner on 12 with Hugh Beesley second on 41 and the tenacious Craig Asbridge third aboard his Tenaci Wong on 52.
Eventually a video of the trial will appear on You Tube channel “2 Wheels Off-Road”.
