Zero loss for winner Younghusband

Haresceugh near Hartside, the high road over the Pennines between Penrith and Alston is arguably one of the highest venues of any trials ground in the UK and is in an area of Cumbria that is as wild and woolly as can be.

That doesn’t stop the Cumberland County MCC from running trials at this popular venue used just once a year ,and as such always attracts a healthy entry (for this sparsely populated part of the world), with 50 signed up for the Haresceugh Club trial on the first Sunday of April.

Held over four laps of 11 sections that were mostly slippery to begin with but which became better as the trial progressed resulted in a win for Gary Younghusband from the north east with a zero score  followed by James Hodgson on 2 and Gary’s son Joe (lead picture from an earlier trial) in third place on 3. The very capable but erratic David Braithwaite got his act together this time for the loss of 5 marks for fourth place, the same as Callum Cook with Mark Quinn in sixth on 8 lost. Generally it was a low scoring trial on the main Clubman course whilst on the Easy Clubman course Scottish rider Steven Mycock lost 10 to finish two ahead of Paul Corbishley with Martin Armstrong in third on 19.
