All action August

All action August

Now that we have entered August, the height of the holiday season, it doesn’t alter the fact that there are plenty of events this month to enjoy.

So here’s a brief synopsis of what’s on starting with the Barrow Club’s Zeke Myers trial on Sunday, August 6 at Torver Common which starts from the Land Rover garage where parking is tight. This is a cracking trial and is the latest round of the Northern Centre Championship. Entries can be made at the start.

Over the same weekend, August 5 and 6, under the auspices of the Cumberland County Club, there are two trials at Newcastleton where Paul Norman is at the control. The Sunday trial is the latest round of the  Rockshock Trials Championship and is apparently on a great piece of land. The trial the previous day, Saturday, is in honour of the late Diane Shield and is used primarily to scrub the sections for the following day’s event. Entries have now closed for both events.

Moving on we come to August 13 where the Bootle Club stage the Presidents trial at Fell Green, which is again a Northern Centre Championship round. Start time is 10.30 and entries are at the start.

Westmorland MC have introduced a series of evening trials into their 2023 calendar  and the final one for this year is on Wednesday, August 16 at a little used venue at Gatebeck which will be flagged from the main road between Crooklands, just off junction 36 of the M6 and Endmoor. The club has been there previously but not for many years. It is primarily a decent rocky stream and bankings with a few sections over rock outcrop and promises to be a good venue for an evening trial. Start time is 6.30 and being mostly out in the open shouldn’t be affected by dusk if it’s a dull day. It is open to all classes with entries taken on the day by cash or card.

Next comes the JD Pattinson trial by Cumberland County at Brownrigg Fell on August 20 which has already been described on this website, then a week later which is August Bank Holiday, on Sunday 27th Lakes GTRC have a trial scheduled, but at the time of writing have not decided on a venue. They did have a venue planned but access to the trial location has been badly washed out since it was last used so more to come on that in the near future. Then on Bank Holiday Monday, Barrow DMC are hosting the Diane Shield Memorial trial at Tow Tops  above High Newton where Nick Shield and Andrew Bingley plotted an excellent trial some 12 months ago and will be doing so once again at this hill top venue. Entries on the day for this trial in Diane’s memory with all classes catered for.

We have learned that East Cumbria MXC have decided not to run any motocross meetings this year but will be having practice days, so more from them through their usual connections. Also in the Centre Calendar is the Hellsfells demonstration arena trial on Saturday, August 12 but we have not heard anything about this event.
