Dixon’s day at Stribers

Dixon’s day at Stribers

Steve Dixon (lead picture) was the only rider in the 44 strong entry to claim four cleans of section three in the Founder Members Trial held by the Barrow Club at Stribers on February 26, an effort that ensured he would win this club trial. However, it was a close thing as the ever improving James Postlethwaite came within a single mark of toppling the multiple Northern Centre Champion, as the three hard course riders battled out who would win. In the end it was Jack Dixon who settled for third, somewhat adrift of his illustrious dad, all three riders getting in as much practice as possible for the forthcoming Scottish Six Days.

Mike Instance

Despite his 250 TY Yamaha feeling a bit off song at the start, a change of plug cured the problem for Mike Instance to win the clubman class from George Armstrong. There’s a significant age gap between the two so no doubt Armstrong will have been very happy with his result as he just managed to fend off the challenges of Simon Brice, a regular class winner in Cumbria, both riders aboard four stroke Betas.

Nigel Birkett

Riders’ scores proved to be quite high in both the Clubman and Green course, yet the retirements were minimal, indeed all the green course (50/50) guys completed the four laps of 10 sections over which Nigel Birkett proved to be the best as he also prepares for yet another ride in the Scottish Six Days, this year being a record breaking 50th attempt – surely a figure that will never be broken! Peter Mawson finished 14 marks behind Birkett with young Connor Anderson in a fine third place.

Whilst Cumbria is not inundated with trials riders, unlike say Yorkshire, there is nearly always a regular turn out of lads eager to enjoy the delights of trials riding in the Lake District, and they were provided with a significant challenge at Stribers over the technical rock outcrop that is a predominant feature of the area, sections that they all tackled with verve. It is excellent that enthusiastic clubs in the Centre get the support and organisers appreciate the riders who make the effort on what may have been a dry day but which was bitterly cold.
