Our man Gaz gathers another S3 win

Whilst this website is primarily concerned with events in the Northern Centre, the Newcastle Club’s Travers Trial which started from Allenheads in Northumberland does actually encroach into Cumbria in the top north eastern corner of the county and accounts for about half a mile of the 38 mile Travers course. So there’s a good reason to give the trial a mention.

There were 16 riders entered who all gave a Northern Centre club as their regular nominated affiliation with five of those 16 riders all tackling the hard course which was won by the evergreen Dan Thorpe from Richard Sadler on 1 and 3 respectively. Best of the Cumbrian guys was Cameron Brice in 5th place with Tom Swindlehurst 8th, Darren Brice 10th and James Postlethwaite and Wilf Shuttleworth, both of whom had never ridden the trial before, a bit further down the results.

But it was in the clubman class where one of our own excelled with Richard Gaskell, (main picture) preparing himself for another and possibly last go at the Scott Trial next month, who won the S3 Clubman class outright, matching the same achievement that he enjoyed back in March when he won the Milnthorpe. However, whilst he won the Milnthorpe with a clean sheet – an incredible ride – in the Travers he lost 8 marks, another excellent achievement.

As a reminder for next year, if you’ve never ridden the Travers, give it a go whilst it still exists as it is arguably the best and most sensible clubman national you will ever enjoy.
