Swinny stars at Cartmell Fell
Every club in the Northern Centre runs at least one centre championship round each year, and the latest event in this series was the Lakes Grass Track Racing Club’s event at Cartmell Fell on May 25.
Attracting an excellent entry of 57 riders, the four laps of 12 sections proved to be a tough venture for some of the entrants, particularly in the Green course where this time there were only four riders, but this smaller than normal entry was due to otherwise regular 50/50 riders moving up to the hard course which had an entry ten strong.
Following on from his excellent ride in the Scottish, Tom Swindlehurst had a great day and lost only a single mark whilst the runner-up Wilf Shuttleworth was on 16 and Joe Hiley 17, with Hiley showing good form that was a replica of his great ride in Scotland. Several of the normal points scorers over the Hard routes of trials were absent, presumably taking a break after 6 days of hard going in the Fort William area.
Adam Hague, (lead picture) back riding trials regularly, currently on his dad’s Beta, was the runaway winner of the Green course group of riders from Liam Robinson, Owen Boow and Angus Maguire. Hague lost just 24 marks so was 22 marks in front after the four laps.
Mark Barrow
There’s no holding back Nick Shield when it comes to a rider dominating the Clubman course for the Beta mounted veteran again blitzed his opposition with a fine ride, losing just a single dab on five of the day’s 12 sections to eclipse his cousin Mark Barrow by six marks. Gary Kitching, Simon Brice and Anthony Hayhurst together with Richard Taylor filled the next four places, each finishing with one mark more than the rider listed ahead of them.
This was an excellent trial organised by a well respected club in the Centre, proven by the good attendance over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Full updated results from the link on the Home page. The original posting earlier on Monday has now been changed to reflect the new set of results. Eric Kicthen is back in action after his Scottish holiday and since his computer software update compromised his settings, so all should once again be sorted. More in the Gallery.
