George takes Alan by storm

The ACU’s Normandale Trial series continues to be a well supported championship which is aimed at the Over 40s, 50s, 60s and air-cooled mono riders and also includes a local support class should the organising club wish to include one.

The latest trial in the series was run by Cumberland County MC, using the historic Alan Trophy as the event, which is what the club have done for many years .

It proved to be a well-supported trial with regular championship contenders making the trip to the north, with only the air-cooled class short on entries.

Cornishman George Edyvean, fresh from a successful ride in the SSDT, took the over 40 class win from Phil Wiffen – another SSDT competitor with Jason Galvin in third. Their scores were quite high after two laps of the amazing moorland Cumbrian course and the 20 sections.

But the Over 50 and Over 60 route used easier sections where the winning scores were quite a bit lower. Ian Wakeford only lost two to win the Over 50s from Ashley Hall and Chris Koch whilst the best Over 60 was Roger Johns from Dorset who seems to be dominating the series in recent years. Dave Smith and Phil Martin made up the podium positions.

Disappointingly, there’s never very many locals who support Cumberland County in their championship ventures, but of those that did it was Gary Bingley who finished well up on the Over 50 route with a fine sixth place in a series that is arguably, the most competitive of all the ACU sponsored championship with once again, Phil Ducker’s Normandale concern continuing their support.

And for those perhaps unaware, Normandale as a business , amongst other things, paint motorsport vehicles.
