Roarty Norton success for Batty

Roarty Norton success for Batty

The ever enthusiastic Westmorland Club ran their first Wednesday evening trial on June 28 in anticipation of a dry and fine evening after prolonged rain for the previous two days. Their wishes were rewarded with a great night and a entry of 33 riders who tackled four laps of 8 sections at a new venue above High Newton.

Using new land is always a risk trying to understand how the ground will change and after some heavy rain which followed weeks of sunshine left the ground bone dry, moisture became a friend rather than an enemy as it meant that some of the sections could be eased which proved to be absolutely spot on with two courses in use, a standard clubmen route and an easy clubman route.

Carl Batty took the huge lump that is his throaty 500 Norton round for the loss of a single five which ensured his win over Burt Crayston on seven and regular top spot challenger Andrew Scott on 11, equal with Erik Buckley.

Batty was the only rider to clean the third section four times as the final angled, gnarly step at the end proved to be a real tester where Luke Furness also had a good ride losing just three.

Bryan Harrison aboard his TRS won the easy course with ease from David Chapman as Ephy Wilson on his delightful 250  Drayton Villiers showed just what a new machine can do for a rider’s morale.
