Clawthorpe’s views made the day

One of the benefits of trials in Cumbria is that the views from many venues overlooking the massive Morecambe Bay – the largest area of tidal land in Europe – is simply stunning, and that was again the case at Clawthorpe where the Lakes Grass Track Club held their second trial of the year in mid-April.

The entry was considerably fewer than at their last event, possibly because Clawthorpe has a reputation for its unforgiving limestone outcrop that features in every section, but the trial was not difficult and the outright winner in this clubman event was Ryan Crayston who stayed clean through the trial.

Sam Metcalfe and Dan Maguire both lost three marks with Metcalfe have one more clean, 37 to 36, to take the runner up spot with the ever improving Erik Buckley in fourth on five lost.

Most of the 39 strong entry rode the main clubman course with some 11 riders on the easy version where the best score was by Youth C class rider Toby Jackson on 19  which was a very clear cut victory as Andrew Emmerson lost 35 with David Eccles next on 69.
